AWARDS & PUBLICATIONS


Marie was honored as the local “Author of the Year” at the Eighth Annual Hispanic Book Festival.  The event, organized by Millenium Press (Andres D. Puello, Director), was held at the Hilton Hotel Southwest on Sunday, February 21, 2010. For information, see http://hispanicbookfestival.com/index.htm.


Marie was named Juried Poet, 2009 Houston Poetry Fest.  She was also Juried Poet in 2007 (there was no Poetry Fest in 2008).  See www.houstonpoetryfest.info for details.


Marie's poem "To a Lost Lover" was published  in the Eighth Edition of Prentice Hall LITERATURE, NINTH GRADE (Student and Teachers Editions, as well as supporting materials). Publication date:  2009.


Marie was among the honorees at the 2nd Annual International Women's Day Gala sponsored by Sucesos Newspaper, www.sucesosnews.com in Houston, Texas (March 2009).


Marie Delgado Travis' poetry chapbook, MIRACLES: A Book of (Mostly) Humorous Poetry received HONORABLE MENTION (Category: Best Poetry Book in English), 10TH INTERNATIONAL LATINO BOOK AWARDS, held at Book Expo America, Los Angeles (May 2008).   MIRACLES is currently featured in Marie's full-length poetry book, BLOSSOM: A Collection of Poetry in English.

Marie's bilingual poetry book, LA VENTANA / THE WINDOW, won HONORABLE MENTION (Category:  Best Poetry Book in Spanish), 9th INTERNATIONAL LATINO BOOK AWARDS, held at Book Expo America, New York City (May 2007). See www.lbff.us/press for more information on these two prestigious awards.


Two of Marie's poems, "Tonight" and "Nostalgia" were honored at the POET'S NORTHWEST 21st Annual Spring Fling held in Houston, TX (May 10, 2008) with a Second Place award and Honorable Mention respectively.  PNW is a chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas.


Marie's manuscript "Exile" (memoir) won a critique by a NYC literary agent in a contest sponsored by SAN MIGUEL WORKSHOPS, San Miguel Allende, Mexico (2008).


Marie was one of four "SPOTLIGHTED GUEST CONTRIBUTORS" in the Winter 2006 issue of LUCIDITY (Vol. 21, No. 2), Ted O. Badger, Director).  Her poems "Ardor" and "Things I Wish I'd Said" appear on pages 13-14 of the literary journal.  The introduction to the Guest Contributors section states:  "These writers reflect the criteria established by this journal for the publishing of poetry that has depth yet is understandable to the average reader." Marie's poem "Forgive Me" and "Clock" received Honorable Mention in the Winter 2007 issue of LUCIDITY Journal of Verse (Vol. 22, No. 2, Winter 2007).
